As for font and background colour, the worst example I’ve come across was red text on a purple background – that really hurt my eyes!

Prance away sharply. Could I add to the list a couple more irritants: 8. White on black font. Hurts the eyes. You have to be a very special blogger to keep me there. 9. Blogs that call themselves "musings". I have some special bloggers who muse (including my very own DH) but I don't want to read any others. Call yourself something interesting, dammit.
