Black coffee and too much sugar
Jump-start me every morning
While the planet, crawling,
Turns its cheeks to the sun.
It rolls beneath our feet -
We learn to walk by falling
As the planet falls
Sunward every morning.
As if my heart weren’t pounding hard enough
I drink a second coffee slowly
And feel my stomach falling
Towards the future
Every morning.
