Daily or bust

No, this isn’t Reed. Reed is lying on the bed reading fantasy novels and drinking tea. While she’s safely out of the way and can’t argue, I am announcing that this week, as of today, Monday the 10th of June, Reed will be posting daily. Despite the fact she works in an office three days a week (I am that sick of that excuse…). A lot of it may well be brief. And rubbish. But she will do it anyway. Because it is good for her flabby little untrained writing muscles. And at the end of the week we will stop, and reconsider, and do hugs and chocolate and possibly boxed ears.

I’d be grateful if you helped with the cheering-on even when she is writing pure unadulterated tosh - me, I get exhausted after approximately four-and-a-half encouraging remarks.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, and ignore the screams of rage, I’m just going to go and tell Reed about this. You didn’t really think I’d consult her before, did you? There’s only so much I can take of the view of her heels in a cloud of dust, hillwards.

It’s a good idea. It’s hard work, and shame-making, but it is a good idea. All the best advisers say “write every day”.

‘Sides which, it’s a treat for us what reads you.

    Good luck with it.

PS - you do subscribe to MsLexia, don’t you? And The New Writer, come to that.

    I’ll do my best.

I don’t personally subscribe to MsLexia - but I know a library that does… Must swipe…errr… borrow some back issues. And I’d never heard of New Writer. Will look it up at once.

I used to subscribe to a writing magazine - I shan’t name it, it shall remain where it belongs, in the ignominy of unoxygenated ignoredness. It put me off writing magazines for several years. It was JUST SO CHEESY. Not only the vast majority of the articles (some by authors who either should have known better, or were being edited by a moron with a grudge), but every poem or short story sent in by the ‘readers’. Ugh ugh ugh. I’d've been willing to bet a week’s coffee money that they were all typed out in Chancery font on aqua-coloured paper.

A recommendation from an intelligent person is most welcome. Thank you.

MsLexia is in relatively freuqent demand by academics here. We don’t subscribe, but I do get a number of requests for articles from it via ILL (not enough for a subscription to be cheaper, though!). It seems to be rather good. :)

[...] It’s been a week. Reed has posted every day for six consecutive days. It was jolly well was going to be seven, but we had that hiccup last night when the wonders of technology went all unwonderful for a few hours. I think she was vaguely planning on posting a long whinge about how bloody irritating the hot weather is getting. Clearly the Internet ran away in self defence. Aren’t you lucky? [...]
