It's only a matter of time before someone ends up having violent sex in the Tate Modern and calls it art.

All too often I see 'art' on telly, or in a magazine, or occasionally in real life and while other people are gasping at it's wonderfulness I scoff and say "I can do better than that"... and it's not just talk either, I can!

I've always thought I had a talent for installations. My bedroom as a child looked very much like Tracy Emin's bedroom... except without the cigarette butts, condoms, and glasses of alcohol.

The art industry has been warped by the galleries, looking for something new and shocking to bring in the crowds. It's no longer acceptable to do something from the heart - now it has to buck the system.

Hmm... the ol' art industry. Which mostly has its head up its arse, in my humble opinion.

Often vaguely talented people who couldn't draw their way out of a paper bag, but they know someone who knows someone who slept with someone else who once knew this other person who knows so-and-so. And then if you're young and cute and happen to be living in a cardboard box you become the next darling of the art world (apologies to Basquiat - quite like some of his stuff).

There's a wonderfully scathingly sarcastic scene about art-world babble-speak in a little known film called I Heard The Mermaids Singing. At least, it had me creased. Because it was so *right on*, to borrow a 60's expression.

My word, I'm glad I wasn't there! I'm not too patient with good art at the best of times (sorry), so this would have made me want to scream. I can draw stick people, but wouldn't inflict them on other people as art.
Did you manage to find the creator of the chess set piece to tell him what you thought about it?
